Beyond the main calculator, the site is a small library of practical golf references. There are plain-English guides to every common scoring term — par, birdie, bogey, eagle — explainers on formats like match play versus stroke play and the scramble, and free interactive scorers for the money games golfers actually play: Nassau, Skins, Wolf, Bingo Bango Bongo and Stableford. There is also a course GPS and rangefinder and a digital scorecard you can use on your phone during a round.
The calculator follows the same maths the World Handicap System uses. For each score you enter, it works out a Score Differential — the difference between your adjusted gross score and the course's difficulty, calculated as (113 ÷ Slope Rating) × (Adjusted Gross Score − Course Rating). Your Handicap Index is then the average of your best eight differentials from your most recent twenty scores, with fewer scores handled by the WHS's published short-record adjustments.
That "best 8 of 20" design is deliberate: your handicap is meant to reflect your demonstrated ability on your better days, not your average day and not your single best round. It is why one blow-up round barely moves your number, and why a run of good scores lowers it steadily rather than all at once. What the calculator cannot do is issue an official handicap. It uses the publicly documented formula to give you an accurate estimate, but an Index that counts in sanctioned competition has to come from scores posted through a licensed club and the GHIN (or your national body's) system, where every card is peer-reviewed and course/slope data is verified.
Golf is full of half-remembered rules and clubhouse myths, so we hold the content to a simple standard: every factual claim is checked against a primary source before it goes on the page. That means the published documents of the game's governing bodies — the USGA and The R&A — for anything to do with the Rules of Golf or the World Handicap System, and named, dated sources for any statistic we quote (such as average handicaps or the share of golfers who reach scratch).
